What is Richmond Borough in Bloom?

.
Founded in 1990, our Bloom campaign is run by a voluntary committee in co-operation with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Members represent residential community groups, horticultural societies and business associations from the different ‘villages’ of the Borough.

The overall purpose of the campaign is to enhance the natural beauty of the Borough through floral display in all residential and shopping areas.

Gardening Awards

All entries for this year’s Merit Awards in 12 categories were judged in the last week of June. The winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates and category winners of a Richmond Borough in Bloom plaque have been announced.

Poster Design Competition

The Poster Design Competition is open to pupils in all the schools in the Borough and takes place in the Spring term. The designs must feature flowers in a colourful way that not only shows artistic merit but also an appreciation of natural bloom. There are entries in four age categories and award winning designs are put on exhibition at public events. One design is chosen as the overall winner to illustrate the poster publicising our Gardening Merit Awards.

The overall winner has been chosen. Head over to the Poster Competition page for full details of the winner and all runner-up awards.

Streetscene Floral Displays

The Bloom committee seeks out the sponsorship which funds floral hanging baskets on lamp columns in the high street shopping centres and other special areas such as Richmond riverside; flower-filled troughs at key places and barrier boxes outside Richmond and Twickenham railway stations. In co-operation with the Council’s Parks Department, we co-ordinate their installation and year round maintenance. Without the support of local business, resident associations and the Council the enhancement of our streetscene would not be possible. In the last two years these displays have contributed to the Silver Gilt awards made to the borough by London in Bloom.

Sponsors

Sponsorship by local business and community organisations funds hanging baskets on the high street lamp columns and other special areas such as Richmond riverside. We organise the installation of the floral baskets and ensure they are properly maintained – all year round, with Winter into Spring and the Summer planting in June through to October.
