The Richmond Borough in Bloom campaign, founded in 1990, is run by a voluntary committee in co-operation with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. (See contact names and numbers below.)

Members represent residential community groups, horticultural societies and business associations from the different 'villages' of the Borough.

The overall purpose of the campaign is to enhance the natural beauty of the Borough through floral display in the streets and in all residential and shopping areas.

Activity through the year -
The main activities during the year are:
* The Poster Design Competition is open to pupils in all the schools in the Borough and takes place in the Spring term. There are entries in four age categories and award winning designs are put on exhibition at public events. One design is chosen as the overall winner to illustrate the poster publicising our Gardening Merit Awards.

* Richmond Borough in Bloom Merit Awards recognise gardens and floral displays in 12 categories for residents, community and business.  Entries for 2008 close on June 20th and will be judged in the last seven days of June.

* Special Events in 2008. A Grand Plant Auction at Sempervirens Bridge Farm Nursery, Whitton took place on April 23rd. The Borough in Bloom stand will be on Richmond Green at the Richmond May Fair on May 10th , where the award winning poster designs will be exhibited and Merit Award nomination forms available.

* Presentation Evening for winners of Gardening Merit Awards will take place in York House on October 2nd 2008.

* Sponsorship by local business and community organisations funds hanging baskets on the high street lamp columns and other special areas such as Richmond riverside. We organise the installation of the floral baskets and ensure they are properly maintained - from the Spring planting in March and the Summer planting in June through to October.

The main sponsor of the campaign in 2008 is Serco Solutions, for the fourth year running.  Generous support for streetscene displays is also given by the Council's Initiative fund, Squire's Garden Centres and the RFU.  The Poster Design Competition was sponsored by the Education Department and by Stagecoach Theatre Arts and Sportscoach.  The Grand Plant Auction was hosted and sponsored by Sempervirens Nursery.
